High Functioning

High Functioning (By Cat Matchuk)

Pen scratches, dirty dishes
stained pillowcases
uniform
Sleep.

Wake up
rub my eyes, rip off my eyelids, get blinded by the sun.
Stained mind, dirty body.
uniform
No sleep.

Again.
Bloodstain pillowcases,
dirty mind,
everything overlaps, not sure what is real, what is fake.
Daydream.

Wake up, you’re broken, but high functioning.
You’re suffering, but high functioning.
It could be worse.
We won’t give you the help you need – until it’s too late.

Pen scratches, dirty dishes
drop a glass, watch it shatter.
I sweep it up,
you’re lucky I’m fucking stubborn

for now.
