I Screamed

I Screamed (By Cat Matchuk)

I screamed
at the top of my lungs,

but in my head,
no one heard.

When I wake, barely morning,
determined to leave the warmth.
A noise in the kitchen
keeps me chained down.
Reason says its not the monster I think it is,

but still,

I screamed
at the top of my lungs,
but in my head,
no one heard.

My mind is running a marathon,
last place,
my body just wants to sleep.
Will there ever be a time when everything is said?
How many different ways must I write heartbreak?

Instead,

I screamed
at the top of my lungs,
but in my head,
no one heard.

I wait for the sun, barely morning,
to warm my heart cold from your absence.
Keep it inside,
what’s dead is dead.
I couldn’t hold it in,

so, I screamed

at the top of my lungs.
